On this day in history, a 29-year-old former CIA technical worker was revealed to be the source of one of the largest information leaks in U.S. history. By the end of 2013, Snowden had turned over 58,000 stolen files to the U.K.’s The Guardian. The Guardian claimed this was only one percent of the number of documents stolen by Snowden from the National Security Agency (NSA). The fallout has been enormous, with much of the negative reaction not against Snowden but against the U.S.
At the end of 2013, The Guardian voted Snowden Person of the year.
